ANGELS by Cathy McGinnis

"Mama, what's an angel?" Billy said
While on his pillow, he laid his head
"I pray for things I cannot see,
To keep their watch-care over me."
His mother thought, gave her reply,
"I'm not sure, but, then I'll try.

An angel is a special thing,
that flies above on golden wing.
We can't see them, but they are there
For little ones, they must take care.
But to man they do appear
when something special there is to hear.

Gabriel was the first, I know
He came to Mary, long ago.
He brought the news she'd give a Son
who would be Savior to everyone.
Later, angels came to Earth
to tell to Man of Jesus' birth.
The brightness of wings unfurled,
lit the sky over all the World.

When Jesus died, they stood nearby
and listened to Him moan and cry.
He could have called them to set Him free
Instead He chose to die in agony.

There were other times I'm sure, I know
that angels brought good news below.
But, the time I like the most
was when appeared a Heavenly Host.

"When was that?" the child asked,
who was close to sleep, almost at last.
"That was when Jesus left this sod.
The angels took Him up to live with God."

Sleep was coming over the little boy,
But, his face was filled with joy.
Billy said, "Will they come for me?"
His mother smiled, "Just wait and see."
